Open Mike Eagle is an orphan of underground hip-hop. The just-off-the-radar music that Mike fell in love with from 1991 to 1996 (A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Artifacts, Wu-Tang Clan) is dead now, and he helped kill it. Other Napster users and Gilbert O’Sullivan pitched in, too, as Mike explains. Later, he checks in with Blockhead, the Manhattan-based producer who has worked with Aesop Rock, Murs, and Mike himself.
I blame this guy, myself.
