so it's lame to ask for the respect not to give away what we work hard to make?

maybe when you grow up you'll learn to respect people.

What? you think that since you sold a few beats, or a few albums, you got your name out there, that you relevant? shit, you aint relevant, at all.

look at yourself, you man enough to stand up and call us out, but too scared to post your name up?

you aint no different than these motherfuckas out here givin they shit away for free, trying to make a name for themselves, and in some instances those motherfuckers have tighter chops than you bitches with a record or a deal.

a record and a deal dont mean shit no more, the genre is soo polluted with bullshit anyways, anyone and they momma can make a record now a days, and getting a deal aint about talent no more, its about chance, timing and who you know and a little luck.

we have to wade through hours of bullshit to find something worth our money, so its no wonder we download and taste before turning over ends for your album.

if you knew how the market worked these days, you would know that the minute number of people downloading your shit for free only increases your sales. 90 percent of the shit I buy, i downloaded first, since I sure as fuck aint gonna waste my money on some wack shit...

and until you motherfuckers start taking RETURNS and giving me my money back for buying a WACK record, I'll continue to download your shit before I buy it.

Think you could REPOST Eyedea & Abilities' "First Born (instrumentals)"??? Given Eyedea's recent passing, I think more people will be taking an interest in their music (as per usual during these situations). Gotta say, I certainly hopped on the bandwagon!

I couldn't have said it better myself. Whoever you are, I think you spoke for a whole generation when you said that.

Half of these guys don't deserve a dime for their half-assed beats, copied style, rehashed work, and weak ass kits. Like you said, this site only helps further your population and helps boost your sales.

When was the last time you walked into a music store and bought a random Cd off the racks? NEVER! because that doesn't exist.

Labels fail to understand that because they're all blinded by sales and they only see bootlegging as a negative instead of a tool that perpetuate their distribution. Not only that, this industry is corrupt, broken and shitted on. You can make an outstanding album and have OK sales and they'll call it a piece of shit.

You know why? Because they all want you to reach Sky-High numbers that previous artist have set before. Not only is that retarded, but that changes the whole motive of the art and the way it has been set. Making money is important but shouldn't be your motive for making you music. That rapes the purpose of us even making music in the first place. This is something the industry won't ever understand because these fat corporate gluttons got their hands on an art that was once not entirely about profit.

I rap and make beats because I have the urge to make a classic. Not to make cash, get a big whip, and waste millions on a fucking watch. (To each it's own.) I make music because I wouldn't be able to live if I didn't, and if my voice breaks and I turn deaf I'd spend the rest of my live fixing this shitty corporation which we call civilization and the industry. Not only are we slaved with a 3% ratio of rich and 97% of broken dreams.. some of us don't even get the chance to show the world what we can do; and how we can further this ART to places it's never seen before.

This is the world we live in and sucks to say that I support your music more by bootlegging it then by not listening to it at all. Respect that or stay in the dark corners of your ignorance.

My name is Tito Nunez, and I support this message.

i respect this request. gettin tired of all this music should be free BS. What other industry on this earth gives away a product that cost a considerable amount of $$ to create. If you buy it great, if you download it for free and do nothing else to support the artist fuck off

All of these artists are idiots! If it wasnt for the BOOTLEG community, nobody would know who the FUK they are! They just hurtin themselves now!

As an artist and producer..

I much rather have you DOWNLOAD FOR FREE all my songs and keep playing them instead of never hearing them at all.

In the end...I really don't care about the money, and I do music to be heard. So as long as you keep my songs in your playlist your keeping my work alive. Stop bitching about your 1$ dollar beat tapes and take it as free promo. Actin like anybody has even heard of you. Smh.

Im a rap artist myself whose constructed a catalog of over 300 songs single handedly on my own by using free beats. i've never sold any of my music to anyone, yet by the grace of free music, was able to build an extremely loyal and self contained fan base across the entire globe. so have the producers whose beats is choose to use..

i have no qualms for the requests of the artists. i can not argue their position, because as an artist, i believe we're all entitled to do with our art/talent whatever we desire to do with it - we all have that freedom. on the other hand i also agree with the perspectives of a few people who replied that are against these artists requests.

in the end though, as artists, we have the freedom to make such requests - no matter how perpetuated or redundant our styles are according to the opinions of a few people who dont exactly represent the general view-point of one artists fan base.

i can certainly respect both sides of this story, its a good discussion topic..for us small timers..

i can respect this...but damn the comments on this board are getting out of control...if a man come and take meat out of ya fridge dont you have a right to say "chill stop"? If you dont care thats cool but damn if a dude dont wanna his beats for free let it be...and i am a king douchebag bootlegger but damn all the vitriol is unnecessary...

Unknown said...

yeah but your fridge is your mpc right. noone take beats straight off the mpc, THAT would be violation. BUT when the meat leaves the fridge/Beats leave the mpc - cause the artist threw them online/out the window, then anyone can grab what they want! in my opinion anyways!

I've listened to some of the names on this list and I didn't enjoy them that much. The exception being Blue Sky Black Death, of course. For example, I don't believe Waajeed's beats can stand on their own. Unlike Blue Sky Black Death's beats, which usually are even better on their own. And, to be honest, I don't believe I'd know these artists if it wasn't for Strictly Beats. So, yeah...

I must say... I appreciate whoever it is who runs this blog for posting my instrumental album on here. I can check where my website traffic comes from in numbers, and in the last 30 days... aside from Youtube of course being my highest traffic source... strictlybeats.blogspot.com was 2nd, bringing over 600 people over to my site to check out more music, download the album etc. So... that means a lot to me. Just wanted to stop through and let it be known, that y'all are appreciated. Peace & God bless

what ever happened to the joy of sharing knowledge?music isn't food, if i have a song ,and i show it to you ,and you have one ,and show it to me ,its not like we exchange them ,but hear two melodies each. this is as an example to why art should be free, because if it was, then the phenomenon of music in general would only benefit.I know i must be stupid, but other people seem so narrow minded when it comes to the whole picture.how can you say that you love music if all you do is prevent its growth by slowing its spreading.

if scientists were doing this, then none of the developments of today would be possible.

art is just another way of reflection on existence, like science ,philosophy, religion etc.
then why not enlighten everybody else with ones vision.

it's okay that some singers,dj's prefer to sell their music, but this is of little help to the phenomenon of music as a whole.

and last, art should be worth as much as the client is willing to offer for it. if it's for money than it is something else, its painting ,its design, architecture, arrangement ,but not pure art.

Music is more than just a commodity to be traded for money. It is a means to convey what is otherwise intangible, it's a language that reaches all cultures.
If money is primarily what you expect from music than perhaps you should reconsider your approach to monetizing your skill set. Some of the greatest artists in the world (not just musicians) have created masterpieces that were originally commissioned by patrons of the arts (wealthy elites, not average citizens). The finished works were then the property of the commissioners, not the artists.
Sure, these aren't exactly the same, but the drive to create art is universally similar among active artists. If your motivations are strictly material then your creation is not the focus of your work, it is simply an advertisement for your brand. If your goal is to convey some concept or emotion or idea, why would you expect someone to pay you to receive your message?
I can see both sides of the discussion, but realistically, do what you love to do for the love of doing it, not for the expectation of payment. You'll be more satisfied in the long run.

Artist has a right to decide how their music is distributed. Fuck you if you think you are entitled to their art. You aren't.

Likewise, if your an artist who releases a weak album, don't bitch at people and blame piracy if its not selling. People aren't paying for it because its shit.

"a record and a deal dont mean shit no more, the genre is soo polluted with bullshit anyways, anyone and they momma can make a record now a days, and getting a deal aint about talent no more, its about chance, timing and who you know and a little luck..."

It also requires a lot of self-esteem, and some people - "artists" and audience - confuse this with skills. And then the same self esteem leads them to believe that if they have a deal they can enforce it with cease-and-desist orders like bushido in germany.

Still I'd guess many artists are good, and therefore get a deal. This page is great to get music out there if you have no deal.

And stones throw at least I think will not sign any bad artists. Maybe they've changed styles as ninja tune did. Although ninja tune puts out a lot of crap for a few years now...
