an original copy of the song and an instrumental copy of the song that ARE 192kbs or greater... they BOTh have to be arranged the same... u can lose outros and intro sometimes if you want and still have the verses and hooks or sometimes just verses come out GOOD.
so once you have exact matches on any original and beat... you can load them in acid .. for example..
and pan the instrumental all the way to the left, pan the vocal version all the way to the right...
make sure both are lined up.. sometimes u gotta chop here and there to keep the allingment perfect.. download a vst called KNOCKOUT.. load that vst in your software and fiddle with the setting on the knockout plugin... basically it's the same setting through out a full lp of beats and originals.. for singles it may vary.. once you got it.. you'll know.. they dont come out perfect.. BUT when mixed with new beat.. you cant notice unless your a "pro" and still it don't affect the feel of the new track..
the vocal left over after the lil work.. is a mono track.. use a software to copy that mono track to the other side making it a semi-stereo track.. (left AND right vhannel with same audio... you now have a acapellas... there are faint remnants of some snares maybe a lil bass or kick drum BUT it's bascially nothing... i would nt use an acapella unless it mixed well ... SO really thats all there is too it.. some are hit and missed and depending on , NOT studio.. BUT completely unnoticeable once you mix it with new beat.. ...
sometimes your gonna wanna use a busy instrumental to mix it with to drown out any drums or meledy that bled through in the acapella creation... so far i... i'm confident if i can do this.. than so can you... for starters try making acapellas from cages-hells winter.. because i KNOW that whole albums comes out REALLY well as acapellas...
the blaxing arrow album is not fully coming out how i expected but STILL usable.. however... the Quannum Spectrum album(great lp BTW) is coming out even better than the cage album which came out GREAT... also the melodica EP by blackalicious comes out GREAT!...
so for now... i wish y'all good acapella extracting
for example.. go to goodwillprojects at myspace and listen to the first track in the player.. it's an example of a cage acapella i made form hells winter... mixed with a beat from rjd2...

your work will not be in vein, i' think what you come up with may really surprise you when it works.
one more thing.. your gonna want the volumes of the original and the beat you use to be the same if possible(thats why singles are great....VLS) etc .... i made another one from the single 'game and lil wayne' my life.. turned out great...
i know this technique is old.. but the difference between doing it right and failing is WORLDS apart...

I'm eager for this, because I know a lot of DIY acapellas are horrible as you mention. So I await to see what you have done.
I thought this was gonna include info on HOW to do it. Instead you're just humpin your own leg for having figured it out. ;)
sounds good on the acapellas
sounds dope. spill the beans sucka!

it is possible!
awesome!
i often created instrumentals of songs by taking the left and right channel of a song and inverting one of the channels.
this often canceled out the vocals that were sitting in the center of the mix, and left a pretty decent instrumental version of the song.
update... wow.. the EXILE-LO KEY-FOOL LP is coming out GREAT!... this..
