Some of Afta's beats sound the same. That last album, he had two bangers on there that were actually really nice. Honey Dip was one of them...I forget the other. Two much spaced out electronica for me on this one. It really all sounds the same. We get it guys. You can make some real mellow spacey synthesized sounds. But if its not catchy, its boring....
Afta produces a good beat when he wants to. He has the skill. 90% of it would be better suited for a soundtrack to a sci-fi film. Maybe elevator music on the Star Ship Enterprise...
Afta-1 is a great producer but a terrible decision maker when it comes to compiling the right selection of songs on a release. Somehow you get the feel that he is over-thinking the final product, like most versatile producers usually do. That's the gift and the curse of being multidimensional.
Overall, his creations are usually a work of art and delight to the ears. With that being said, you'd be better off creating your own playlist by mixing up songs from previous projects with this current release. But make no mistake about it, you gotta have Afta-1 in your collection.
I made the 2nd comment above, and I agree with the *other* Anonymous dude, immediately above, who says that you need this guy in your collection. The beats that I DO like from him? They get alot of play and are some of my favorite beats.
