I mean there's some good musicality some of this, but this sound is just a little too one-dimensional and faddish. I think producers should stop going in this direction. The novelty has kinda worn off, and this is just not a timeless sound. It is creative in the same vein of Iron Chef. Given one ingredient (in this case a very restrictive wonky video game blippity-bloop type of sound), it is impressive what some of these chefs can cook up. But at the end of the day, a Nintendo is not a musical instrument. I think the dudes that are really goin' nuts over this type of stuff are simply indulging in momentary but pleasant emotional memories associated with the joy of sitting and playing Nintendo for hours on end as a kid.

I was already to dispute your nostalgia statement, but as soon as I heard emerald dreams I cut on my gamecube and threw on my sonic the hedgehog collection lml.

I definitely enjoyed this and just loaded it in my itunes, but I have to agree with what "anonymous" said. Its almost like producers are making simple boom-bap beats and finding the same type of sounds to lace them with.
There's lots of good music that sounds like this, and honestly, every producer sounds the same. Querky beat, 8bit sounds and a synth bass and voila... I've downloaded at least 6 beat-tapes like this and I honestly can't tell you who is who. Their all dope with no individuality.
