Skymark - Deep Soul Revisited Vol.1

I was listening to skymark's 2007 album "deep soul revisited", and it reminded me of that Broer van mozes - soul beats i posted a while ago.

Good samples. To me - sampling laser beams and robots, will never be able to compete with some of the better soul samples. And I do hope Strictly Beats will continue to dig for more of what I call this classical kind of instrumentalism. This is definitely the best beat site out there (to my knowledge), but you guys are a little heavy on the synth-hop (which you have opened my ears up to and I do like).

However, a caveat here is that alot of producers are sampling *too* much soul. They basically are sampling all of the instrumentation, the voices, everything - and just trying to turn soul into hip-hop laying it over a bassline.

Much more creative, I think - is what 9th Wonder is doing. He will get some amazing soul samples, particularly alot of the vocals, but the overall beat in the end simply does not sound *like* soul. It is pure hip-hop.

I love this beat tape, and I appreciate it for what it is, but I do think, rather than being "revisited", soul is better used in the way that 9th does it - pressing it into the service of hip hop.

This beat tape is the best one i've heard in a long time. I also think their should be more of this types of beats. Thanks
