El Puto Coke - 100 Beats (2009)

This MC and producer from the city of Vigo, in the far top-left corner of Spain called Galicia, goes by El Puto Coke (which translates roughly as The Fuckin Coke). He's been an active and increasingly central member of the local and regional hip-hop scene since his early teens. Now, at 30, he can look back onto collabs with some of Spain's finest, and he ain't even blown up yet. So there's more and bigger things to look forward to.


This collection of 100 (!) beats (~370 MBs, hence two portions) gives an impressive cross-section of his work. What I was really surprised to find was the great diversity of beats he showcases on this legal beat-"tape". No two beats sound the same, and they make for great listening because Coke likes to keep the beats fresh and flips them around every few moments.

The White Shadow of Norway - Instrumentals (2008)

So there's this DJ and producer from Norway who has managed to go pretty much unnoticed despite the fact that he's worked with everybody and their chia pets since the early 90s. See his myspace credits. He's produced and remixed for all of your favourite American as well as local, Scandinavian crews. How his name isn't better known, I don't know... (and I agree, that is a rubbish name, but hey, it's all about the music, right?)

Well anyhoo, this is his instrumental album. Some nice, banging beats. My favourites are "Nut & Graffiti" and "No Sell Out".

"Take Notice. . ." -Espiv

Just for the record, i've gotten several emails (over 25) with albums to post since 4/1/10, but I do actually sit here and listen to them once or twice before posting them to StrictlyBeats, HHB, BrainwashLA, and/or FreestyleMadness / Urb Magazine (this being if I feel that strongly about it)... This blog is non-profit and not dictated by money or buzznames (ex; 2dopeboyz, kevinnottingham, and several others - mind you, Im not knocking their hustle), but in-turn, this means the quality has to speak for itself. I am selective on what I post and don't just toss up anything that I get... If a month goes by and you've sent me something, chances are I've listened to it and only found 1 or 2 things with replay value, or i've just not listened to it yet. So in closing I suppose this is just a statement in general, and also to 3 specific people who've sent me follow-up emails asking why i've not posted their music. If I don't post what you've sent, try hitting up the other contrib's, perhaps they'll get it up for you.

Anyways, enough of the drama and text...Check these guys out, they've got some heat and sound polished, hopefully we'll hear more (rank & leave comments if you'd like)

Jon Phonics - Jonathan's Beats and Pieces (2009)

Great instru album by Jon Phonics, a London-based producer and MC. A variety of hard, headnodding and playful beats which he churned out between November and December of last year. (Some producers could hope to make such a lot of dope beats in their lifetime, at best.)

The album is up for free, and it can be got off the man's bandcamp page (where there is more to be had), but if you prefer rapidshare (no e-mail required, nicer tags etc.) here you go.
